A panel of high-profile jewelry industry members will address conflict minerals legislation at the VicenzaOro Winter fair, Jan. 18–23 in Vicenza, Italy.
“Conflict Mineral Legislation in Europe and the United States: How It Impacts Domestic and Export Jewellery Businesses” will take place from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Palladio Room on Monday Jan. 20, and feature a high-profile panel of speakers, including: Corrado Facco, managing director of Fiera di Vicenza; Gaetano Cavalieri, president of CIBJO; Rossella Ravagli, corporate social and environmental responsibility manager of Gucci in Italy; and others. The topic is being addressed in the light of the impending 2014 conflict minerals legislation that will affect both American and European jewelers: Section 1502 of the U.S.’ Dodd-Frank Act maintains that merchants must file reports with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission to make supply chains apparent, while a conflict minerals proposal in the works in the European Union aims to address similar issues for European retailers.
