Coming Attractions: JCK Las Vegas 2013

Have you booked your ticket to Las Vegas yet? I started looking into fares last week, after I attended a JCK editor’s preview event in Manhattan, and realized that jewelry market week is almost upon us. (Mind you, we’re just about done with our May issue and getting ready to dive into the monster June edition, so my head is a little deeper into the calendar than most of yours are!)

To whet your appetite, here are three designs from the editor’s event that caught my eye—not only because they’re beautiful and well-crafted, which goes without saying, but because they represent three distinct types of jewelers that also happen to be JCK (or LUXURY or Elite Enclave) exhibitors.

The first, a pair of Crescent Moon/Star clip earrings in oxidized sterling featuring 0.33 ct. t.w. white diamonds, are by Genevieve Yang, a third-generation jeweler who was named a JCK Rising Star in 2012. The enchanting earrings belong to a collection inspired by a month-long wilderness expedition in the Wyoming winter. You can find her work at the Design Center.

The second piece is a gold and platinum flower brooch encrusted with pink, yellow, and white diamonds, by the venerable firm Oscar Heyman. Stop by the 101-year-old company’s booth in the Prestige Promenade to check out the collector-worthy jewels that have earned the company a sterling reputation for craftsmanship.

Finally, I admired these 18k drop earrings with royal blue moonstone, aquamarine, tanzanite, and tsavorite by Temple St. Clair, a mainstay of the Elite Enclave salon tucked inside the LUXURY show.
