The inaugural winner was announced Oct. 16, during the JIS Miami October show.
For the first time in its 36-year history, JIS brought together its retail and exhibitor community to celebrate the JIS Retailer of the Year Award on Oct. 16. Held in Miami Beach, the event honored retailers from around the globe that have exceeded the standards of excellence in promotion, customer and supplier relationships, and the sale of quality merchandise. Finalists included Ballerina Jewelers, Maharaja’s Fine Jewelry, and Colombian Emeralds International, with the latter coming away with the top honor of the evening.
With nearly 50 retail locations throughout the western hemisphere, Colombian Emeralds International, a member of the Dufry Group, has been in business for more than 40 years and continues to grow. The retailer was nominated by exhibitors of JIS, who were asked to select retailers based on four criteria: commitment to fair business practices, relationship with the JIS exhibitors, uniqueness of store within its jewelry market, and quality of merchandise. A panel of industry professionals selected the three finalists from the list of nominees, which were announced on the opening day of the JIS Miami October show. The winner was selected through on-site ballot voting by both the retail and exhibitor community.
Colombian Emeralds International was thrilled to be selected as the first JIS Retailer of the Year. In a press release, CEO Peter Allan said: “The JIS Show is just great. It is the perfect time of year, just before the Christmas buying season, and I am excited to see the show growing. We’ve been hearing about the new changes coming to JIS for months, and seeing them in person is even better. I look forward to Colombian Emeralds International being a part of the new future of JIS.”
