Colombia to Host International Emerald Symposium

Fedesmeraldas, the Colombian Emerald Federation, will host the first-ever International Emerald Symposium in Bogota, Oct. 13–15.

The symposium is supported by Colombia’s Ministry of Mines and Energy and “all emerald-related bodies,” according to the organization.

“It will be the first time that producer countries have come together at a high-level international gathering to address issues relating to the emerald business in the same way diamond industry representatives have done in the past for their trade,” continued the statement.

Delegations from Zambia, Afghanistan, and Brazil are expected to attend, as are representatives from the International Colored Gemstone Association, American Gem Trade Association, World Jewellery Confederation, Gemological Institute of America, Brazilian Gems and Jewellery Trade Association, and Gems & Jewelry Trade Association of China.

Speakers will include the honorable Christopher B. Yaluma, Zambia’s minister of mines, and Gemfields executive director Sean Gilbertson.
