If the name is not familiar to you: Cody Simpson is a heartthrobby Los Angeles–based Australian troubadour who is also known for being the beau of Miley Cyrus (his very lovely song “Golden Thing” was written for her).
Now, he’s a published poet. His debut collection, Prince Neptune, was released on Tuesday with a fun twist: He’s giving away a signed copy of the book along with a necklace he custom-designed with David Yurman to a lucky fan who preordered a copy ahead of Tuesday’s book signing (at 12 p.m. PDT).
Sure beats a sweaty bandanna tossed into a crowded stadium at the end of a set.
Simpson and the Yurmans first connected last year as the jewelry brand made plans for its new 57th Street flagship launch party. They stayed in touch and soon came up with the idea to partner on a custom version of David Yurman’s Streamline Tag necklace featuring the poetry book’s emblem—Neptune’s trident—in celebration of the publication of the book.
“It was an honor to partner with David Yurman on the custom Prince Neptune necklace,” says Simpson. “I’ve admired his work and jewelry for a very long time. In fact, my first ever piece of jewelry I bought was [David Yurman]. The Neptune necklace looks unbelievable.”
Both parties share a commitment to preserving the earth and to environmentalism. The Yurmans are well-known for their support of Polar Bears International. Simpson has been recognized as a global partner with the United Nations; growing up in Australia with a surfing background, he is passionate about marine life, decreasing the amount of plastic waste in our oceans, and creating sustainable alternatives to improve our carbon footprint.
After today’s giveaway, a celebrity gifting program (look for the pendant on Demi Lovato, Shawn Mendes, Millie Bobby Brown, Michael Phelps, Ben Harper, Miranda Kerr, and others) will follow.
The plan is to later expand the necklace into a unisex capsule collection sold at David Yurman.
Certainly it would be the perfect accessory for wearing on the beach this summer. Perhaps while reading Simpson’s poetry.
