Citizen Unveils Marvel-Themed Watches at New York Comic Con 2018

Citizen Watch picked the right event—pop-culture fest New York Comic Con—to debut its latest collection of timepieces: a series of eight Marvel superhero-themed sports watches.

The collection, a partnership between Citizen and Disney that the watch brand announced at Baselworld 2018, pays homage to some of Marvel’s most popular Avengers, including Black Panther, Spider-Man, Captain America, and the Hulk.

Citizen tapped actor, comedian, and YouTube personality Josh Peck to unveil the collection at New York Comic Con and be its ambassador throughout the event. The watches will land in stores in spring 2019 and will be priced at $275–$625.

The collection includes two Black Panther timepieces that feature the comic’s signature violet-and-black palette, in addition to dials that sport a Wakandan-inspired tribal pattern that’s meant to recall the pendants on hero T’Challa’s necklace.

Spider-Man fans can choose from two Spider-Man timepieces that boast the sticky superhero’s trademark red and blue. The first, a chronograph stainless steel model, features a Spider-Man logo inside one of the chronograph sub-dials. The second is a black rubber–strapped model designed with the Spider-Man logo at the 12 o’clock position, nestled next to a white web graphic that spreads across the dial.

The Captain America watch features the patriotic superhero’s famous shield and “A” insignia, along with a strap with camouflage detailing (recalling his history as a soldier in World War II, naturally). And the Hulk timepiece includes a graphic of the legendary mad man’s famous green fist smashing through glass.

Less specific are a pair of watches that celebrate the Marvel universe: an Avengers timepiece featuring the famous “A” logo in the center of the dial and a playful navy-hued watch (see top photo) that features comic book panels.

“Marvel is thrilled to partner with Citizen to give fans a piece of the Marvel Universe to take with them wherever they go,” said Dan Cruz, vice president of digital media and integrated sponsorships at Marvel. “Citizen is the perfect fit for these Marvel-inspired timepieces, reflecting the incredible characters and stories fans have followed for decades.”
