Christie’s Names New CEO

Guillaume Cerutti joined Christie’s in September 2015, after a decade with Sotheby’s

Guillaume Cerutti, Christie’s current president of Europe, Middle East, Russia, and India operations, has been appointed the auction house’s CEO.

He replaces Patricia Barbizet, who has held the post since 2014. A statement from the company says the change was made on Barbizet’s recommendation and “with the full support” of the Pinault family, who controls Christie’s.

Cerutti joined Christie’s in September 2015, after a decade with Sotheby’s.

Christie’s owner François Pinault will become board chairman, and Barbizet vice chairwoman. Barbizet formerly held the role of chair.

“Two years ago I asked Patricia to take the helm of Christie’s and adapt the organization to the new challenges of the art industry and market,” Pinault said in a statement. “She has led the company to a point where it is appropriate to pass the baton to Guillaume Cerutti.”

Stephen Brooks continues as deputy CEO, overseeing operational aspects of the business.
