Christie’s Auctioning Kim Kardashian’s Ring, Ex-Husband Confirms

It’s official: The 20 ct. t.w. diamond ring that Christie’s New York is auctioning on Oct. 15 really is the engagement ring Kris Humphries gave to Kim Kardashian.

“The ring is indeed Kris’ property that he received through his marriage dissolution,” the pro basketball star’s rep said in a statement, according to E! Online. “He has long-since moved on and is very much looking forward to a successful auction at Christie’s.”

The ring’s listing can be seen here

The Lorraine Schwartz-designed sparkler attracted a huge amount of attention when Kardashian received it in 2011. The ring is set with a rectangular-cut diamond, which weighs 16.21 cts., and flanked on either side by trapeze-cut diamonds weighing 1.80 cts. It is mounted in platinum and rests in a Lorraine Schwartz pink wood case.

The ring’s current estimated sale price is $300,000 to $500,000—far less than the $2 million Humphries reportedly paid for it.

The question is: Now that the ring has been outed as having belonged to Kardashian, will that increase its value? Elizabeth Taylor’s fame certainly helped the auction of her jewels. Could Kardashian’s?

“Taylor had worldwide, decades-long fame,” longtime auction expert Ettagale Blauer tells JCK. “Kardashian is more of the Warhol 15-minute variety. The ring is by Lorraine Schwartz, so there’s the ‘red carpet’ factor.”

But, adds Blauer, “I am not the right person to assess the Kardashian element, since I have never understood how she became famous for being famous in the first place.”
