Chicago Antiques Fair Adds Fall Event

The Merchandise Mart International Antiques Fair has added a Fall Fair, Oct. 12-15, giving collectors a second opportunity to shop among the world-class dealers. The show will be held on the eighth floor of the Merchandise Mart Chicago, a landmark building in the city’s business district. Award-winning architect and product designer Michael Graves will be the keynote speaker.

For the past ten years, the organization held a Spring Fall. The Fall Fair is expected to be a permanent part of the antiques fair schedule.

The Fall Fair will host more than 90 dealers of antiques and fine art, and a range of categories, including: 20th Century design; architectural design; Asian art and antiques; ceramics; decorative arts; furniture; folk art; glass; jewelry; rare books and maps; sculpture; silver; and tribal art. This year’s fair will also feature a special “Americana” section of American antiques.

Award-winning architect and product designer Michael Graves will be the keynote speaker. Graves has designed furnishings from furniture to lighting and jewelry to dinnerware for Steuben, Disney, Black & Decker, Phillips Electronics, and Target. Graves will discuss “Designs that Stand the Test of Time” on Oct. 12 at 10 a.m. in The Merchandise Mart Conference Center. The presentation is free and includes continental breakfast and complimentary entrance to the fair.

There also will be a special preview party Oct. 11 from 6–9 p.m. Ticket prices benefit the Women’s Board of Lincoln Park Zoo.

The Merchandise Mart International Antiques Fair will be open Friday and Saturday 11 a.m.– 7 p.m.; Sunday 11 a.m.– 6 p.m.; and Monday 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. Tickets are $15 and may be purchased on site or through the Web site,  beginning in August.
