Between the Golden Globes, SAG Awards, Grammys, Sundance Film Festival, Paris Fashion Week (the Haute Couture shows), and a slew of other red carpet events, the past few weeks have been a treat for jewelry oglers. We’ve done plenty of coverage here at JCK about some of the best looks from each (Paris Couture and top Grammy jewels, to just name a couple), and it’s been exciting to celebrate the (really good) jewelry sightings.
What I love, perhaps most, is to glean views that feel behind-the-scenes (whether or not they actually are, as some images are reposts from others) of those jewels that caught our eye on television in marvelously up-close Instagram photos. From celebrity stylist posts to those from the stars themselves, there are endless opportunities to get a closer look at the good stuff thanks to snapshots others choose to share. This month has been rich with chances to do just that.
If you’re looking for a pattern or to draw some trend conclusions from this series, the most obvious candidate is big earrings. From oversized studs to long drops (can we give it up for a moment to Tracee Ellis Ross, for posting an Instagram photo about how those Lorraine Schwartz ruby earrings made her feel good?), decor for the ears continues to be the biggest element in jewelry wear.
As a matter of fact, though it wasn’t my intention, it appears that nearly all of these shots I’ve gathered feature some sort of major earring, with the exception of one (but Elle Fanning’s brooch was way too good not to note). With New York Fashion Week upcoming in just a few short days, and London and Paris to follow, it will be interesting to see what the runways will depict as the next big thing. Will big earrings be cemented as the look this year? If you’re the betting sort, I’d put my money on yes—but only time will tell.
Here are some of my favorite jewelry posts—a sampling of things I double-tapped on Instagram in the last couple of weeks.
