Celebrate International Women’s Day and More With the WJA

If you’re in New York City during this week or next, you’ll definitely want to join the WJA for a series of empowering events. I hope you can join us for this inspiring roster, which casts a spotlight on women in business!

First up is an early dinner and talk in midtown on Friday afternoon at Piccolo Fiore from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. The WJA’s Metropolitan chapter will feature Diana Atieno, owner of Porini Gems in Nairobi, Kenya, who will reveal how she’s building up her business in the male-dominated African gemstone industry. I met Diana at JCK Tucson 2015 just a few weeks ago and was so impressed with her story that I asked her to share it with the Metropolitan chapter! She is making a special trip to New York City just to speak to us on Friday, so please join us if you can. Sign up here.

On March 8, WJA—though you don’t have to be a member to participate—will take part in the United Nation’s Third Annual March to End Violence Against Women. This is a free walk that begins at 2:30 p.m. at First Avenue and 45th St. and continues to Dag Hammarskjold Plaza. It will last for an hour, and the U.N. will have speakers on hand to address the crowd at the end of the walk. Meet your WJA team at 2:15 that day; look for someone holding a WJA sign. Register for the walk here, or check out the listing on the WJA Metro chapter events page.

Lastly, the WJA In the Know daylong seminar and In the Spotlight evening affairs take place on March 10 at Convene at 730 Third Avenue. The day starts at 9 a.m. and lasts through 5 p.m. and features a great roster of speakers including The Happiness Project author Gretchen Rubin and Rent the Runway CEO Jennifer Hyman, among others. (I’ll even be speaking in the afternoon about how to appeal to the press.) In the Spotlight takes place from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the same location. Log on here to register. I hope to see you at all the events!
