LVMH-owned Starboard Cruise Services, which provides high-end retail services for cruise ships, has named Caryl Capeci (pictured) as strategic adviser, overseeing its fine jewelry, luxury, and watch categories.

In her new role, Capeci will oversee the divisions’ growth strategy and expansion with a “luxury approach to brand stewardship,” according to a statement.

Capeci was the head of Chow Tai Fook North America (formerly Hearts On Fire) from 2015 until 2022. There she ran U.S. operations for the Hearts On Fire and Mémoire brands.

Capeci tells JCK that she will be at Starboard’s Miami headquarters every week and work out of its New York City office as well.

“My role will be connecting the two worlds of cruise retail with the jewelry and watch industry,” she continues. “Both categories are perfectly positioned to work together to capture a larger segment of the travel retail market.”

Capeci began her jewelry career at advertising agencies N.W. Ayer and J. Walter Thompson, where she worked on the De Beers marketing team for over a decade. In between working at De Beers and Hearts On Fire, she served as executive vice president at ad agency Havas/Arnold, where she led the agency team for Royal Caribbean and Celebrity Cruises.

She has also served on the boards of the American Gem Society, Diamonds Do Good, and Jewelers of America. In 2018, she received the Women’s Jewelry Association’s Visionary Award.

Starboard Cruise Services operates retail services on more than 90 cruise ships worldwide, including 10 cruise lines. It was purchased by LVMH in 2000.

“Caryl has the unique background of successfully leading a global diamond jewelry company, while also understanding the complexity of the cruise business and the nuances of delivering a luxury retail brand experience onboard,” said Starboard Cruise Services president and CEO Lisa Bauer in a statement.
