Carrera y Carrera, Spain’s prestigious luxury jeweler, has made its Broadway debut with a custom-designed “9” pendant which actor Antonio Banderas gave fellow cast members in the new Broadway musical, “Nine,” in which he plays the lead character.
The pendant was commissioned by Melanie Griffith, Banderas’s wife. These handcrafted 18k yellow gold and diamonds pendants feature the image of a nude woman which, combined with the wave of her hair and a sash flow create the number “9,” a homage to the show’s title.
Griffith and her husband, long-time collectors of Carrera y Carrera, ordered 20 of the custom-designed pieces: 18-in. yellow gold chain for the women and two on 18-in. black leather cords for the men. Each is inscribed on back with “Love, Guido,” the name of the lead character Banderas plays in the show. Griffith and Banderas presented the pendants to the “Nine” cast members opening night.
Carrera y Carrera’s “9” pendant has already been featured in People Magazine and on E! Entertainment Television, and will be showcased in the luxury jeweler’s salon at the upcoming 2003 Couture Jewelry Collection & Conference. Carrera y Carrera USA is located in New York City.
