Today’s Britt’s Pick is somewhat unique and calls for a different kind of introduction—and if you recognize that line, you, too, may be currently living in a jewelry Twilight Zone.
I mean that in the best way, of course. Jewelry Week in Las Vegas is like an otherworldly experience, where time moves faster than usual and, whether from exhaustion or pure diamond-laced ecstasy, you have to keep asking yourself if any of it is real.
I’m still trying to sort through it all, from the conversations (the only thing I like more than the jewelry) to the new collections to, let’s face it, the cocktails. But a few things immediately stand out from my all-too-short (but also, quite enough) time in Sin City.
Favorite Collection: Penny Preville’s Medallions

Penny Preville is well known for meaningful jewelry—it’s an ideal brand to keep in-store for charms and the like—and I experienced love at first sight with the medallion charms exhibited toward the back of Penny Preville’s booth (pictured at top) at the Luxury by JCK show. Sold separately, the medallion charms were styled together in the most wonderful, covetable ways.
This year marks Penny Preville’s 50th anniversary, and its booth was the place to go if one was in a celebratory mood, every corner an ode to the eponymous designer’s five decades of jewelry design. Put simply, it’s not hard to imagine how Preville got to 50 years in this business—and it couldn’t be more obvious why she’s a go-to for meaning-rich pieces like the medallions.
Favorite Jewel: Khepri’s Charming Necklace

Omega-style necklaces—or torques—are huge this year, and personally I’ll take any one of them. But if the sky’s the limit, I’m all about the selection from Khepri that was to be found over at Couture. The New York–based brand, named for the Egyptian god and symbol of renewal and rebirth, originated when designer Reema Chopra repurposed an engagement ring into a necklace for a divorced friend, and it has spawned works of beauty like the necklace, saddled with individually sold diamond charms, you see here. The look is exquisitely over-the-top, and grounded in the color I was obsessively searching for at the shows—brown.
Favorite Booth Experience: Omi Privé

If you come away from the Luxury show without any socks (because they’ve been knocked off, get it?), then you must have gone to Omi Privé. The purveyor of colored gemstone jewelry is unmatched by its peers for passionate, jaw-dropping gems, as well as its settings for those stones. I joked to owner and designer Niveet Nagpal that a visit to his brand serves to remind me of my lack of discretionary funds. Still, slipping on one of his jewels, even for a moment, would have anyone feeling like a million bucks.
Nestled in the back of the incomparable jeweler’s booth, we were privy to Omi Privé’s speakeasy setup: a cozy, curtained-off area with walls lined in vividly photographed jewels where libations and—perhaps the best part—gemstone-inspired chocolates were served. It was conceived as a place to relax, to have a quiet discussion, to just connect over the jewels that bring us all to Vegas each year. “These gems aren’t just a commodity,” Nagpal said. “They tell stories.”
Favorite Designer Visit: Marie Lichtenberg

I really can’t gush enough over Marie Lichtenberg, because it’s not just the Parisian designer’s gloriously playful and immaculately created jewels that pull me in (though that would certainly do it), it’s the woman herself. Visiting with Lichtenberg is like the next best thing to a therapy session—the F-word flies freely, the dopamine hits just right thanks to a mix of heavy gold, diamonds, and gleeful conversation, and you find yourself as magnetically drawn to this human as you are to her works. Lichtenberg is brilliant in design and in business. She brought an entirely new line of jewels to Couture; her earlier works will not be produced again, so grab these now collector’s pieces while you can (and please, get me one, too).
