Vanessa Fernández has never been one to chase trends. The Cuban-Armenian designer, based in Miami, quickly built a reputation for custom designs defined by bold, confident gemstones and sculptural metalwork that unmistakably reflects the hand of a true artist.
Yet before us sits a jewel that feels perfectly of the moment, rendered in a hue that Pinterest predicts will dominate in 2026. Strike that—the electric spessartite at the center of Fernández’s richly golden Curva ring glows with a more fiery intensity than Persimmon, the orange-red shade named in Pinterest’s 2026 Color Palette. In her hands, the cushion-cut stone becomes something next-level exceptional.
“This stone was sourced from Nigeria via Dave Bindra of B&B Fine Gems in Los Angeles,” Fernández says. “My goal is to create my pieces with fine and saturated color, and this stone has a rich orange depth and clarity that I found to be very attractive. I wanted to highlight that by setting it into my rich red gold alloy.”
That alloy is, among several things, what makes the jeweler’s creations so special. Rather than relying on standard mixes, Fernández creates custom gold alloys in her studio, one of the reasons every piece feels so intentionally made—no detail happens by accident, each element is precisely controlled and thoughtfully achieved.
At a time when icy blues and wintry whites dominate fashion feeds, the Curva ring offers a welcome counterpoint, a warming presence capable of melting even the frostiest of hearts. And when those vibrant orange-red tones inevitably have their broader cultural moment, this jewel will be more than ready to shine. Then again, its thoughtful craftsmanship and timeless spirit suggest it was never meant to follow trends in the first place.
