When I think of spinel, and perhaps this is the case for others too, I immediately picture the juicy red versions of the gemstone that make it so appealing. Probably because that’s the first encounter I had with the gemstone, and continues to be the one I have the most.
But the most intriguing thing about spinel is its wide range of colors, with today’s featured jewel being one of my favorites by far.
I’m not typically a massive fan of purple, but this shade of stormy lavender is so beautifully moody and chic it’s suddenly the only color I want to dress in. I imagine it to be an ideal option for fall, because it still offers that juicy bit of color when we’ve retired so many of summer’s rainbow hues.
Though the over 3 ct. spinel is most certainly the highlight of Ark Fine Jewelry’s luscious ring, it’s not the only thing the piece has going for it. There’s more than meets the eye to this chunky gold design, which already ticks many boxes of the most-in-demand jewelry features.
From the jeweler’s Creation series, the ring features a triangular diamond on each side of its center stone. The triangle pointing down symbolizes Shakti, a Hindu goddess who represents feminine energy; the other symbolizes the Hindu god Shiva, who is associated with the masculine. Together, the shapes allude to finding balance as well as the process of creation—hence the name of the series the ring belongs to.
The meaning behind Ark’s ring takes a different approach to the typical talismans we’ve been eyeing so much. It’s more abstract in nature, and its subtleties give the wearer a particular peace of mind while not necessarily revealing anything to an outside observer. This in itself makes the ring special because it feels so personal, down to the hidden Sri Yantra engraving—a symbol used as a tool for meditation—that’s hidden inside the ring.
The piece is one in a series of Ark’s Creation line, in which each ring is just as candied and delicious as the next. Still, it’s my favorite of the bunch, and what an incredible August birthday gift it would be.
