Britt’s Pick: Renna’s Bubble Necklaces

Jewelry designer Renna Brown-Taher is taking up residence at Trove in New York’s West Village beginning this week, and she’s bringing best-selling collections of her eponymous brand, Renna—beefed up with new additions—for the occasion. Expect to take in an evolutionary display of Renna’s most exquisite work, right down to the beloved Bubbles.

The latest color additions to Bubbles—pink tourmaline, emerald, golden beryl, and mint tourmaline (all shown above)—cement the notion that Renna designs jewels for the ages. The necklaces blend a bit of old and new, with vintage-style rope chains and contemporary bezel-set gems. (Doesn’t it seem like everything is set in a bezel right now? It’s wonderful.)

We touched last week on tenniscore being the name of the game this season. And I stand by that assessment, despite the influx of sea creatures—a walk through my local outdoor retail complex this weekend confirmed that we are, truly, living our sardiniest summer. The difference between tennis and fish jewelry is the former seems to experience far fewer ebbs and flows. (We’d love to string a few sardine charms on a swanky tennis necklace this season, and be the talk of the town.)

We could write about the newest takes on tennis jewelry until the end of time, and never tire of their existence. The point is, even modern, trend-adjacent takes seem timeless, transcending decades and fads and, yes, even fish. And that’s one reason Renna’s Bubble necklaces get the heart racing. They also showcase the brand’s penchant for playful yet exquisite design.

Prices range from $16,000 to $85,000, so piling them, as pictured, may be an aspiration for all but a lucky few. Yet one alone is enough to make a statement all summer and beyond. It’s not just an of-the-moment tenniscore sort of thing—it’s a declaration that jewelry wearers want to have fun, even if they’re perpetually serious about style.
