Britt’s Pick: Turquoise Pendant by Melis Goral

Turquoise is without a doubt the stone of summer, regardless of current styles and trends. It’s just about given, with no need to reapply: Like a perennial flower, it just keeps coming back.

That’s why, when the weather begins to warm, I love to keep a lookout for new and interesting turquoise jewels. I’m always adding to my mental collection (though the tangible variety would be preferred), and looking back, I can say that I have amassed quite the lineup—with a special turquoise piece for each year.

It looks like 2018 will be the year of this pendant by Melis Goral. To me, this is the look of effortless elegance.

Its Art Deco style, with geometric accents and dainty diamonds, provides the look of grace, while its dog-tag style makes me feel as though it belongs on a beach. It’s like, the most glamorous surfer on earth should be wearing this necklace. That’s a look I would very much like to perfect, no surfing lessons necessary.

At the moderate price of $1,900, it’s not exactly a piece you’d want to wear willy-nilly into the ocean, but if one were to dress the part simply to hang out at the beach, why not? It is from the designer’s aptly titled Deep Sea collection, after all.

If the thought of fine jewelry at the beach makes you queasy, I can just as easily picture the pendant against breezy summer tanks, dresses both low-cut and high-neck, and even with office attire. (Look, I’d rather pretend no one has to work during the summer and instead spends all day at the beach, wouldn’t you?)

And when the dog days of summer have come and gone, imagine this pop of blue to keep the good vibes all through the colder seasons, when we tend to gravitate toward darker colors. Instant pep!
