Britt’s Christmas Pick: Red and Green Necklace by Ananya

It’s Christmas Eve, one of my absolute favorite days of the year, and always an excellent reason to get dressed up (the following day, Christmas, is a day dedicated solely to pajamas, if you ask me).

However one chooses to clothe themselves this holiday season—and whichever holiday they celebrate, if they do celebrate—there is always an occasion that calls for jewelry (even if the occasion is to simply sit on the couch), and so each year, I love to choose one piece that feels like the ultimate Christmas-y jewel.

This year I was not requited to search high and low, as I’ve been holding on to this necklace from Ananya ever since I wrote about the jeweler’s superb Mogra collection. In red and green, could there be a more appropriate selection to represent this jolly day of the year? I think not!

I’ll be careful not to pigeonhole this piece as a holiday-only jewel, though: It has year-round potential. Its diamond pavé petals, with Art Deco flair, have a bit of a shell look to them, infusing seaside vibes into the decadent creation. Its smattering of rubellite—and complementing rows of rubies—looks juicy enough to eat, like summer (or winter!) berries. And those emeralds, likely the main attraction of the necklace as the largest sits front row center, will impress any onlookers born in May (including yours truly), their birthstone done superb justice.

For today, though, it will be the Christmas necklace. In the traditional red and green, it’s truly a merry sight set to rival the greenest wreath, the trimmest tree—and anyone else’s jewelry you might see at the family party.
