Britt’s Pick: Meluzza’s Convertible Cherry Earrings

Share

While cherries are typically associated with summer, as their peak season comes around June and July, Meluzza’s sweet pair of convertible earrings makes the case for the fruit to be a year-round icon.

On each ear, a juicy red round rhodolite and bright green marquise tsavorite are arranged in the likeness of a cherry— but there is an air of holiday adornment to them, especially this time of year. Meluzza founder and CEO Paula Doebrich tells JCK she designed the earrings to be subtle and versatile, as they’re convertible to four different styles. You can wear a cherry and leaf when you want to, or play with another combination.

The jewels are inspired by something we all may have done at some point (at least as kids): draping real cherries on our ears as if they were earrings. “The inspiration for the earrings came from a childhood memory,” says Meluzza founder and CEO Paula Doebrich. “I would often look for double cherries and put them around my ear, pretending they were earrings. I wanted to re-create this in a fine piece of jewelry and this concept was born.”

The round rhodolite or marquise tsavorite can be worn as individual drop earrings.

Meluzza’s earrings can be worn with both gemstones dangling from a bezel-set stud, as pictured at top. Alternately, you could wear just the rhodolite garnets or just the marquise tsavorites hanging long (the rhodolite’s chain is longer). Or wear the tsavorite studs alone. You could also mix and match—wear one style in one ear, a different style in the other ear.

For dangle-free days, the earrings can be worn as simple studs, featuring round tsavorite centers.

“I think pieces that can be worn multiple ways are always welcome,” Doebrich says. “These earrings in particular can be built out from a simple stud into statement earrings, or a delicate single dangle earring for a happy medium. Deciding between multiple styles can be tricky, so it is nice when you don’t have to.”

For retailers, versatile jewelry is a fantastic sales point for getting shoppers the most bang for their buck, and a demonstration of how the earrings can be variously worn is imperative. “From a retailer perspective, I believe it is important to show the customer how they can combine the jewelry—giving styling tips can be valuable, as not everyone may at first know how to best wear the different looks of the earring,” Doebrich says.

“While it is fun to have so many ways to wear one piece, it can be overwhelming,” she adds, “and having some sort of guidance on where to start is helpful.”
