Britt’s Pick: Marie Lichtenberg’s Check Locket

Share

Right now we’re all about a good chunky gold chain, and wearing it plain works just fine. What else does one need?

But people also like pizzazz—and the latest from Marie Lichtenberg has plenty of that to offer a basic chain.

Though the brand’s chains are anything but basic, it’s the add-on locket concept that really takes them next-level. Lichtenberg’s chains are inspired by a piece handed down from her mother, whose roots are in Martinique: a hollow gold chain with bold locket clasp, celebrating emancipation in Creole culture.

Lichtenberg’s Italian-made, 18k recycled gold chains are fastened with her assortment of large and small lockets, many imbued with colorful enamel and gemstones.

The newest locket—which will be available for viewing at the upcoming Couture show in Las Vegas—kicks things up a notch, taking inspiration from the dance floor of the 1977 film Saturday Night Fever. The design re-creates that iconic setting with a checkerboard pattern of 96 rubies and 96 diamonds, set over the locket’s six-sided barrel shape in matte-finish yellow gold.

“I combined my love for this movie and the dance scenes with my knack for designing unique and intricate jewels to create this stunning checkerboard pendant,” says the eponymous brand’s CEO and founder Marie Lichtenberg. “I wanted to showcase a piece that reminded me of the bright, multicolored floor that captivated an entire generation. From the glittering lights reflected off of the centerpiece disco ball to the flashing patterned dance floor, you can see the parallels between discotheque and the Check locket.”

If there’s any piece more fit to be brought to Las Vegas, we can’t wait to see it—right after we’ve finished trying on this one.
