Britt’s Pick: LFR Studios’ Moonstone Locket

Share

There is no more beautifully mysterious item of jewelry than a locket.

The outside, that’s for everyone. Whether engraved, heart-shape, gemstone-accented, or some other wonderful design, it’s like the cover of a good book.

The inside, though, is where we keep our secrets. Any number of things could be in there—a photograph of the wearer’s children, a lock of hair, baby teeth, a vial of blood, toenails (people get weird), maybe even a centuries-old curse. Who knows? That’s part of the excitement.

This locket from LFR Studios has a secret you’ll want to reveal: a “surprisingly large, softly glowing” moonstone, according to Laurie Reid, the designer behind LFR Studios.

Her description is accurate—you wouldn’t expect a gemstone of this size hiding within the golden house of this glorious locket. A slightly translucent pink sapphire on the outside serves as a window to the treasure located in the locket’s interior. Open it, and there it is.

“The piece plays with concealment and discovery, turning the act of wearing into a private ritual,” Reid says. “I’m driven by the joy of manifesting things that haven’t existed before—pieces that begin in the imagination and slowly take form through gold and stone.

“This locket came from a fascination with contrast: the clarity and precision of a geometrically cut pink sapphire, set against the soft, glowing mystery of a moonstone. I love combining materials in unexpected ways to create objects that spark curiosity—pieces that ask to be looked at twice, or held close. For me, this piece is part keepsake, part invention, and all about the quiet magic of discovery.”
