Britt’s Pick: Kurtulan’s Chain Mail Bracelet

Share

As far as jewelry trends are concerned, 2024 has made one thing very clear so far: Big is in. From the not-at-all subtle baubles of the Mob wife aesthetic to the rise of sterling silver, jewels are showing up in supersize forms like cocktail rings, large earrings, and statement bracelets.

Kurtulan’s chain mail bracelet is an example of the latter, packing precious detail into an eye-catching piece. Inspired by the ancient armor dating back to the third century B.C., the bracelet depicts those signature mesh rings of chain mail, crafted in sterling silver. This would be a standout look on its own, but Kurtulan took it next-level with a series of five agate and black jade intaglios, each set in 24k gold and accented with small diamonds. It’s a piece both historic and modern, honoring objects of the past while offers consumers the distinctive styles they seek.

As sculptural sterling silver continues to stoke demand from consumers—its return to popularity began percolating about two years ago—a striking bracelet such as this is a welcome addition, quenching the thirsts for both white metals and vintage jewelry. Consumers who want pieces that appear to have a story to tell needn’t look further.

This is not the only chain-mail-inspired piece in Kurtulan’s repertoire, the brand a treasure trove for Old World-type jewels. Based in Istanbul, Kurtulan—which recently celebrated its 30th anniversary in business—features the hallmark 24k gold jewels often associated with Turkish jewelry, blended with beautiful blackened silver and bright, bodacious gemstones.
