Butter yellow and Mocha Mousse might be considered the defining colors of summer 2025, but blue and green will always be the true rulers this time of year. What colors to better represent a season of life—the blue skies, sometimes giving way to downpours of rain, turning everything beneath it green as can be? To me, blue and green are reminiscent of an island vacation, which can’t be beat for a summer getaway.
Some of the most striking and refreshing pieces of jewelry combine blue and green gemstones—Karina Choudhrie’s dangling high jewelry pair is a perfect example. These earrings are a study in the variances of turquoise. Many consumers picture the gemstone only in crisp blue, but it can also show as shocking green, a result of higher iron content.
Here, these two mineral tones of turquoise mingle in slightly offset fashion, the blue versions dipping slightly lower than their sea green counterparts. Veining on both the blue and green stones is evocative of the water, while the gathering of rose-cut diamonds that floats above each complementary elongated duo glitters like the sun on the water.
As it turns out, the designer also saw water in these earrings when she created them for her Under the Sea collection. “The inspiration for this piece comes from the depths and colors of the oceans and seas in Mauritius where I found myself researching the collection,” Choudhrie tells JCK via email. “The piece was born from a deep study of what causes different blues in different seas and why we see turquoise when we look at the water.”
