There are at least 101 reasons why October is the greatest month of the year, and one of them is bright pink. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and countless brands—in jewelry and otherwise—are doing wonderful things to show their support. I mean, come on, how much do you love seeing 200-plus pound NFL players getting down and dirty on the football field, wearing pink? Am I right? Ahem…Anyway, one of my favorite names in bridal, Jeff Cooper Designs, is proudly putting on its pink this month: its Leah engagement ring. The Leah ring is customized with a 1.0 ct. round pink sapphire and decorated with delicate flowers that sweetly float down a twisting, vine-like shank. I can’t think of anything more perfectly feminine than this. And while the playful (and sparkly) gesture is a nice one, Jeff Cooper Designs doesn’t just participate symbolically. The company takes its support for cancer research seriously, having participated for the past three years in Cycle for Survival, an indoor team bike-riding event that benefits the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. The team has raised a total of just under $49,000! Those proceeds go to research of all forms of cancer. But it’s easy to see why supporting this month’s efforts would mean so much to the Jeff Cooper Designs team: For some, the disease hits close to home. VP of sales Barbara Palumbo lost her grandmother at the age of 49 to breast cancer. “I ride every year to support the family members it has affected,” designer David Cooper said. “I ride to remember the friends I’ve lost. I really do Cycle for Survival when it comes down [knowing] that what we raise will aid in getting that number lowered.”
