Britt’s Pick: Interchangeable Earrings by Nina Nguyen

They say variety is the spice of life, and in the life of a jewelry lover, versatility is a very good thing. So when Nina Nguyen introduced her collection of interchangeable earrings, things got very exciting, indeed.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned as I’ve gotten older, it’s how to be a better shopper. I don’t purchase things as often as I used to, and when I do, I like to make sure that they’ll get plenty of use—none of this onetime-wear-and-sell-or-donate kind of thing. I look for articles of clothing that are a bit more basic, but in the same sense versatile, and I enjoy wearing them over and over for years to come (which also requires that they are good quality).

Jewelry is a bit different. While we have our so-called investment pieces (let’s maybe call them capsule pieces instead?), it’s also nice to have a little fun. If you’re like me, you enjoy a splash of colorful jewelry to mix up that basic white V-neck tee that you’re wearing for the 10th time.

For those on a budget and still wanting a piece of high-quality jewelry, this can be somewhat of a challenge. There’s no spending thousands of dollars—or even hundreds—on oodles of fun jewelry when they’d prefer to “invest” (there’s that word again) in one luxurious, substantial piece. And there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that.

That’s why I love this concept from Nina Nguyen. The designer’s signature look is getting mixed and matched with her new, patent-pending design. Unveiled at the 2018 JCK Las Vegas show, the earring collection features an interchangeable design that allows the gemstone mechanism to dangle from hoop earrings, turned into a pendant, or used as a charm.

In a press release regarding the patent-pending status, Nguyen said, “Over the last few years as fashion trends have evolved into a more relaxed and natural style, I’ve really enjoyed being able to mix and match shapes and colors that create a uniquely organic look. The idea for this new patent-pending interchangeable system was born from my desire to allow customers who love Nina Nguyen Designs jewelry the chance to personalize their own design aesthetic. The wealth of options and flexibility within our new system will encourage repeat purchasing, and serves as a platform to expand with endless design and provide our customers with an opportunity to personalize their styles in an elegant and fashionable way.”

With jackets and hoops or stud earrings sold separately, it’s up to the wearer which combination suits them best, so the only problem is deciding which to select. Thanks to its versatile design and enchanting style, no matter which gemstone is chosen, shoppers can feel good about this being a purchase for the ages.
