Britt’s Mardi Gras Pick: Multicolor Band by Eriness

Happy Mardi Gras! Oh, how I wish I could be in New Orleans on this fine day. What a celebration! The parades, the music, the food. It’s a colorful feast for the eyes and the ears, the tummy, and the soul.

But when you can’t be there, well, you can pretend to be there. My plan is to crank all the New Orleans jazz I have on record, cook up some barbecue shrimp, and polish off this king cake from Whole Foods (it’s surprisingly good and, yes, I’ve already broken into it). We make due with what we have over 1,000 miles away.

As for the feast of color for the eyes, while I will throw on the Mardi Gras beads currently cascading from a bookshelf since our last visit to the Big Easy, I’d much rather don this ring from Eriness. A jewel box of color, it evokes flurries of confetti being tossed merrily by passing revelers.

It brings me joy by simply seeing this ring, a mix of rainbow sprinkles against a background of yellow gold (which brings another thought—how great would this ring be for someone celebrating a special birthday?). While the official colors of Fat Tuesday are purple, green, and gold (representing justice, faith, and power, respectively), you can’t deny the merriment of this full spectrum of hues.

With a domed interior, you could wear this band each and every day comfortably, and it does have the stackability factor. (Imagine this wedged between some pavé diamond bands? What a sight.) As the wearer enjoys it, it could remind them to honor every day, even the ones where there really isn’t anything specific to celebrate.

Whether it’s an epic festival or simply the fact that you managed to catch an extra five minutes of shut-eye this morning, there’s something wonderful about the extremely small and big moments in life. As they say in New Orleans, laissez les bons temps rouler (let the good times roll)!

Domed ring in 14k yellow gold with assorted multicolor gemstones, $1,195
