I’ve gotten the impression that peridot is a tough gemstone for some people to digest. I suppose I understand—that shade of green isn’t exactly for everyone. But if you think about it, whomever had the final decision on naming peridot as the birthstone of August was quite brilliant; its green hue goes well with summer brights, but the olive-ness it evokes rolls right into the fall, coordinating with jewel tones and that coveted autumnal combination of oranges, yellows, and browns. And really, when peridot is used like this:
I’m hard-pressed to understand what’s not to love. Andreoli’s insane necklace sends lines of peridot and diamonds cascading in a v-neck design, rich with more than 300 cts. of peridot (there are nearly 12 cts. of diamonds, too). You’d have to be a pretty lucky duck to score this necklace for a birthday gift—it retails at more than $120K—but I think what Andreoli’s out-of-this-world necklace demonstrates is how powerful peridot can be when it’s in the right hands (er, neck?). In my opinion, there aren’t enough jewelry companies and designers incorporating the gemstone into their pieces, and since its the month of peridot, what better time to start?
