Borgmans Named IDC Chief Quality Officer

International Diamond Laboratories appointed Peter Borgmans as Chief Quality Officer of its global lab operations. He will serve as liaison between the customer and the lab and will secure grading results.

Borgmans is internationally respected through his work as Secretary of the International Diamond Council, a working group of the World Federation of Diamond Bourses whose task is to standardize grading systems of all diamond laboratories.

Recently, Borgmans was involved in quality management for Polygon, one of the leading online marketplaces for diamonds and jewelry. Prior to joining Polygon, Borgmans served for 27 years as HRD’s Quality Manager in the Certificates Department. He was responsible for initiating accreditation of diamond labs in accordance with the ISO standards.

‘Mr. Borgmans has been invaluable in optimising our quality management system in high growth markets. Polygon has developed its operations considerably over the past years both in the Far East and the Middle East. We are confident that we can now leverage Peter’s expertise to sustain that growth.’ said Jacques Voorhees, Polygon chief executive officer.

The IDL chief quality officer is an independent position who serves as a liaison between the client and the lab and secures consistency of grading results. All discussions on grading results are channelled through a single quality officer to avoid any direct contact with or influencing of the graders.

‘Peter’s expertise in the field of ISO standards and quality management supplements IDL’s strategy of consistent diamond grading. We are convinced the trade will appreciate having a dedicated and independent expert as the single point of contact regarding all grading results.’ said Peter Meeus, IDL chief executive officer.
