Bonhams’ New U.S. Flagship Set for February Opening

Share

On Feb. 9, 2026, Bonhams will open its new U.S. headquarters at the landmark Steinway Hall, 111 W. 57th St. in Manhattan. With 42,000 square feet, the location offers 30% more space than Bonhams’ current New York showroom, located a few blocks east on Madison Avenue.

“The new HQ will set a new tone for Bonhams, as we transform our offering for the U.S. market,” said Lilly Chan, managing director of Bonhams U.S., in a statement. “The journey to opening in 2026 is defined by significant investment in Bonhams’ future here in New York, enabling us to create a destination that blends heritage with innovation. We’re proud to be joining 57th Street’s cultural corridor that will enable us to scale our ambitions to greater heights.”

Bonhams’ new NYC address is highly recognizable for the 80-plus-story residential tower—the world’s thinnest skyscraper—that has been built atop the original 1920s building. Key architectural elements of Bonhams’ space will include the historic Steinway Rotunda, united with a soaring 80-foot glass atrium that serves as the main lobby. A grand staircase leads to an expansive, triple-height gallery containing two large auction rooms.

Bonhams said it will move beyond the traditional auction house model at Steinway Hall to become a dynamic cultural destination, featuring free exhibitions, guest installations, and marquee auctions that leverage the company’s expertise across more than 60 categories, including jewelry, fine art, design,  and cars.

Early programming in the new space will showcase objects of both historic and artistic/cultural importance, including a 1910 Steinway & Sons piano used by Elton John. The piano will be on display and host guest performances before it is auctioned by Bonhams.

Bonhams’ 2026 New York calendar will also include an exhibition of modern Cuban painters, special programming for Asia Week in March, and marquee fine art auctions in May.

With Bonhams’ opening, Steinway Hall will reopen to the public following a decade of closure. JDS Development Group has led the restoration of the building’s neoclassical design by Warren & Wetmore (architects of Grand Central Terminal) to its original grandeur. The ambitious transformation honors the legacy of Steinway Hall while creating a world-class environment for collectors and cultural programming, according to Bonhams.

New interiors by architecture and design firm Gensler blend modern finishes with the building’s historic limestone. Interior design by Nada Sawires of Design X Nada complements the architectural vision, with bespoke pieces crafted from glass, stone, and liquid metals.
