As Blue Nile executives rang the NASDAQ opening bell on Cyber Monday, Nov. 29, a couple that had won a company contest got engaged on
the floor of the stock exchange.
Perry Whan and Michaela Maloney of Indianapolis won the
Seattle-based diamond seller’s “Ring It. Sing It” contest. Prizes included an
all-expense paid trip to New York City and $5,000.
Prior to the bell going off, Whan got down on his knee and
asked Maloney to marry him with a Blue Nile ring. Maloney said yes, and the
event was broadcast live in Times Square.
