Shortly before the Superdome’s lights went out on Super Bowl Sunday, viewers huddled around their televisions to see Beyoncé shake what Tina Knowles gave her.

America is so captivated by Queen B’s look that Las Vegas even offered bets as to whether she would wear her hair straight or curly.

As you can see, she went with a curly hairdo and leather bodysuit designed by Rubin Singer.

The stage costume is based on Singer’s upcoming fall 2013 collection entitled “Valkyrie’s Dominion.” (In Norse mythology, a Valkyrie is a female figure who decides which soldiers die in battle and which live. Talk about an independent woman!)

“This piece is truly couture in every way,” Singer said in a statement. “My seamstresses were assembling all of the leather and exotic skins individually by hand. Beyoncé is such a fierce and intense performer we could not have the outfit constrict her in any way.”

There’s no denying that she looked fierce—okay, Sasha Fierce—in the Rubin Singer leather get-up, but I couldn’t help but notice her lack of bling.

“If you’re wearing black leather, it’s not the time to be shy, so I’d go for big, bold jewelry,” says jewelry designer Wendy Brandes.

Leather has been a hot trend this year. But how can you accessorize the bold statement without looking like a 50 Shades of Grey fantasy? (Unless that’s the look you’re going for, of course.)

“A blackened, satin finish would give either silver or gold a beat-up, edgy, biker look. I’d actually pile on a mix of necklaces in both metals with just one pendant with a large, rich-colored, gothic jewel like a garnet as a centerpiece,” Brandes says.

Brandes offered some suggestions from her collection:

“My chunky Juana ring. For a big star like Beyoncé, I’d do two custom versions—one in 18 karat yellow and one in 18 karat white—with her initials or another symbol of her choice. Maybe her lucky number 4!”

“My 18 karat gold and diamond Virginia Woolf Whistle necklace would have been perfect for the Super Bowl. And it opens up to reveal a little wolf, so it’s fierce enough to go with black leather.”

While Beyoncé could have used some more sparkle, she did successfully accessorize her performance with her BFFs and Destiny’s Child bandmates Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams—and for that the 12-year-old girl inside of me is forever thankful.
