Everything to Know About Blancpain’s $2.1 Million Grande Double Sonnerie

Share

Blancpain closed out 2025 in a big way, unveiling its most complex timepiece ever: the Grande Double Sonnerie. Developed over eight years and priced at more than $2 million (1.7 million Swiss francs), the watch integrates a dual-melody chiming system, a flying tourbillon, and a perpetual calendar into a single 1,053-component movement.

The “Double” designation refers to a world first—the watch offers two distinct four-tone melodies. Wearers can select either the traditional Westminster chime or an original melody composed by Kiss musician and watch collector Eric Singer. The system utilizes four hammers and four cathedral gongs to create a rich, carillon-style sound. To ensure acoustic clarity, Blancpain patented an 18k gold membrane within the case that acts as a loudspeaker, amplifying the vibrations of the gongs for the wearer.

The new timepiece’s movement, calibre 15GSQ, is notable for its construction; the bridges and mainplate are crafted entirely from 18k gold rather than standard brass. The watch also has a flying tourbillon with a silicon balance spring and a perpetual calendar with a retrograde date.

To protect the delicate gear train, Blancpain engineered five separate safety mechanisms that lock the crown and melody selector while the hammers are in motion, preventing damage from accidental adjustments.

Despite its mechanical density, the 47 mm watch is designed for ease of use. It features patented under-lug correctors, allowing for manual calendar adjustments without a stylus tool.

Production of Blancpain’s Grande Double Sonnerie is strictly limited to just two per year, due to the labor-intensive assembly and hand-finishing involved. The timepiece, available in red or white gold, represents a landmark for the brand, reaching the pinnacle of its technical capabilities.
