Opal’s play of color makes it unlike any other jewel. Opal is found all over the world, from Australia to Nevada, and gets its unique color spectrum from “microscopic arrays of stacked silica spheres that diffract light,” according to the GIA. The value of opal is determined by its color range and pattern, and ranges as widely as its place of origin, from a few dollars a carat to thousands. Opal is also one of the birthstones for October. Here are 10 new opal jewels for stores to consider stocking.
