BHP Billiton announced Feb. 10 that the 78 carat EKATI
Spirit diamond will be auctioned off in Antwerp, Belgium, on Valentine’s Day.
The diamond is the most significant gem quality diamond to
be discovered at BHP Billiton EKATI Diamond Mine in Canada.

BHP Billiton will use a hybrid auction system for the first
time, combining the features of the two auction platforms used by BHP Billiton
in the past—a Uniform Price Auction for stones up to 7 carats in size, and an
Ascending Clock Auction for larger and special stones.
