Beyoncé Fuels Demand for Obama Earrings

Superstar Beyoncé showed her support for President Obama by wearing statement earrings at the Nov. 3 Brooklyn Nets game.

The silver and gold-plated earrings, designed by Erika Peña, feature detachable bama charms within O-shape hoops. “I wanted the earrings to be interchangeable because Obama represents change,” says Peña.

Peña, who designs both fashion and fine jewelry, strategically sent her creation to Beyoncé’s team. “I had worked with Ty Hunter, Beyoncé’s stylist, in the past for the B’day album. I reached out to him again and sent him a photo of the earrings,” she says. “He immediately said, ‘Send me three’—for [mom] Tina, [sister] Solange, and Beyoncé.”

Beyoncé has never been shy about showing her support for the president. She sang at Obama’s inauguration in 2009; and she and her hip-hop superstar husband, Jay-Z, helped raise funds for Obama’s reelection campaign.

Since she was seen sporting the Obama earrings, both at the game and on her new Instagram account, sales have, not surprisingly, spiked.
