Ball Drop: The Newest in Spherical Jewels

Share

I initially intended this baller roundup to coincide with New Year’s Eve, a cutesy nod to the annual Times Square ball drop. (Trivia time: Did you know that tradition started in 1907? Wow!)

I don’t have to tell you that the holidays got away from us—now it’s 2026 and I’m still thinking about ball jewels. I was reminded how much I love the way they look when I unearthed a pair of HardWear ball earrings from Tiffany & Co., having completely forgotten they were buried at the bottom of that Tiffany Blue suede pouch (talk about your champagne problems).

I haven’t taken the earrings off since I found them. What a wonderfully sensory experience ball jewelry offers, how it rolls between the fingers. As I twist the earrings on my earlobes, I add a matching bracelet to my ever-growing wish list, imagining how soothing it might be to feel that on my skin all day.

There’s something calming about the sphere—even when set with gems, it’s smooth, soft, highly approachable. And over the past few months or so, a variety of styles like those featured here have been making their way to market, perhaps an answer to our collective need to feel more grounded.

When compiling this roundup, in general I looked for larger millimeter sizes—jewels that were more disco ball than bead, like Harwell Godfrey’s groovy earrings at top (which were very much inspired by that icon of the 1970s). But a classic ball chain, even a petite one, is a style miracle all its own. Take Lionheart’s necklace above, for example: a bezel-set diamond, while very of-the-moment, is elevated by the ball chain it sits front and center on.

Ball jewelry is a sure thing for 2026, as it has been in years past. It’s classic but never boring, and while we all love our jewelry that holds meaning, spheres just don’t have to, and that’s okay.
