Avi Paz has succeeded Eli Izhakoff as president of the World Diamond Council.
Izhakoff first announced he was resigning in January after 13 years heading the group. He stepped down at the end of June.
The World Diamond Council represents the industry before the Kimberley Process, the certification scheme designed to eliminate conflict diamonds.
Paz, an Israeli who has headed the World Federation of Diamond Bourses, was formerly first vice president of the WDC.
“Eli Izhakoff is an industry giant, who not only took our community from a state of crisis to a position of renewed strength, but at the same time instilled within us the understanding that we have the capacity and obligation to create a better life for all of our stakeholders,” Paz said in a statement.
