Aurelia L. Roman, Wife of Former JA Chair, Dies



Aurelia L. Roman, the wife of longtime Jewelers of America chairman and executive director Michael D. Roman, died Oct. 24 in her sleep. She was 94.

Michael D. Roman headed Jewelers of America from 1976 to 1995 and died in 2002. He and Aurelia were married 55 years, and she was frequently found by his side during his career in the jewelry industry.

Born Aurelia Rubas in 1921, she began her career as a hospital social worker in Chicago and also worked as a fashion model and interior designer. She designed hats, painted, and restored antique furniture.

She is survived by a son, Mike; two daughters, Laura and Lisa; and four granddaughters.
