Auction House Phillips Names Sam Hines International Head of Watches

Sam Hines has been appointed the international head of watches at Phillips.

Hines has been in the watch world for 20 years and is the former head of Christie’s watch department in Hong Kong. He will lead watch teams in Geneva, London, and New York City from the company’s newly created Hong Kong office.

Phillips added its watch department in November 2014 in partnership with Bacs & Russo, the watch consultancy founded by Aurel Bacs, the former international head of watches for Christie’s, and Livia Russo, his partner, also formerly of Christie’s. They will stay on as consultants.

“Sam has pushed the boundaries of watch collecting, expanding the awareness of the watch market to a vast network of established and emerging collectors,” said Edward Dolman, Phillips chairman and CEO. “He has built his career on forming long term relationships with many of the world’s watch collecting elite.”

Added Bacs: “Sam has, without a doubt, the trust of the world’s key collectors and trade thanks to his unrivaled expertise, honesty, transparency and integrity.… He has a reputation for continuous outperformance, resulting in unmatched relationships within the industry.”
