Athletic Chic

The Members Only jacket had its moment and there’s a time and a place for drawstring pants (hint: it’s not usually cocktails), but the changing winds of spring brought with them a new set of rules. This season, designers took sportswear literally: riffing on workout staples but making them wearable outside of the gym too.

This 3.1 Philip Lim jacket harkens back to the Members Only days, but the punchy hue and nautical hint of the exposed drawstring give it personality.

This A.L.C. jacket is easily wearable as a casual day piece with jeans, but is brilliant in that it does double duty as an evening staple—adding a slight unexpected sporty edge that’s still fully polished.

As if a pair of high-tops and heels collided. And the overblown ankle strap on this Alexander Wang pair makes them almost as easy to walk in as tennies. Almost.

On the surface, this Derek Lam sweater is just a sweater, but the almost neon yellow feels decidedly sporty and the sinewy knit pattern brings to mind the hole-punched pinneys of many a flag football game.

The exception to the drawstring rule: This brilliantly draped pair from Isabel Marant would look so smart with heels.
