Ashok Sancheti’s Spectrum Award-Winning Emerald Earrings

It took New York City-based jewelry designer Ashok Sancheti of Pioneer Gems a year to source the Colombian emeralds in these platinum earrings, and another eight months to make them, but they were worth the wait! The stunners took 2nd place in the American Gem Trade Association’s 2012 Spectrum Awards in the Classical division for their universally appealing styling and vibrant shades of green.

“I create my jewelry like pieces of art—one-of-a-kinds that we don’t repeat,” he says.

Inspired by the greenery found in nature, Sancheti maintains that this quality and size of stone (particularly the five- and 10-pointers in the drops) are hard to find. He brought them to AGTA Tucson this year, where two stores showed great interest, but with intentions to take them to Baselworld (starting this week), Sancheti asked the potential buyers to be patient. “We wanted to display them at our booth,” he says.

One of those clients will visit the Swiss fair, as will thousands of other international merchants, so the chances of finding the right partner to help place the $150,000 earrings with an end client look good. Look for them at the show in Hall 3.1 booth D40.
