Argyle Pink Tender Sets Record With Diamond Sale

Rio Tinto’s 2013 Argyle Pink Diamond Tender set a record for the most valuable diamond ever sold at the annual sale.

The Argyle Phoenix, a 1.56 ct. fancy red diamond, achieved the highest per carat sale price for a diamond ever produced from the Argyle mine, according to a statement from Rio Tinto.

The Argyle Dauphine, a 2.51 ct. fancy deep pink diamond, broke the record for the highest price paid for an Argyle diamond in overall value terms. It also set a world record for a fancy deep pink diamond.

The company didn’t provide details of what those records were, but it did note that one bid broke the $2 million mark for a single stone and that there were a record amount of bids over $1 million.

All 64 diamonds in the 2013 Tender were sold, according to Rio Tinto’s statement.
