Anglo American Supports Diamond Development Initiative

The Diamond Development Initiative (DDI) has received a three-year contribution from the Anglo American Group Foundation to support its efforts to promote responsible sourcing and improve the lives of artisanal miners.

The funding enables DDI to carry out its principal functions, including the registration of artisanal miners, the implementation of its Development Diamond Standards at mining sites, and support to mining communities in need, including clean water and education.

“We salute Anglo American for their vision and generosity,” says Ian Smillie, chair of the DDI board in a statement. “They have proven themselves to be a leader in our effort to make diamonds a driver of development.”

Anglo American owns 85 percent of diamond miner De Beers.
