Andrey Zharkov Named President of Alrosa

The supervisory board of Alrosa, the Russian diamond mining company, has elected Andrey Zharkov president.

Zharkov was most recently the deputy head of Gokhran, the Russian state’s precious metals and gems repository, and chairman of the board at Kristall Production Corp., the diamond wholesale company.

Previous positions include senior dealer and head of precious metals at the Bank of Russia; head of department and chief engineer at MMC Norilsk Nickel, the nickel and palladium mining company; chief commercial officer at Prioksky Nonferrous Metals Plant; and board member at Novosibirsk Refinery Plant, the gold refinery. 

Zharkov will serve a three-year term.

Alrosa’s previous president, Fyodor Andreev, died in January. He resigned from his post for medical reasons in September 2014.
