American Museum of Natural History Collaborates With Etsy Designers

Twenty-two Etsy designers made products inspired by the natural world

Some of Etsy’s most popular and prolific crafters took inspiration from one of the world’s most iconic collections of natural artifacts for a new collection.

New York City’s American Museum of Natural History has collaborated with Etsy designers on a 140-piece product collection inspired by the natural world and the museum’s varied collections. The collection of jewelry, leather goods, paper products, and design objects will be sold in the museum’s gift shop and on its website starting Thursday.

The collaboration marks the first time Etsy has partnered with any museum to create products.

The fruits of the collaboration include a sterling silver blue whale pendant from Craft0logy, based on the whale installation in the museum’s Milstein Hall of Ocean Life; hand-painted leather pouches from Kertis that used an egg in the ornithology collection and a print from the rare-book collection as inspiration; and a pop-up birthday card from Smidge Co., which is an homage to the museum’s fossil halls and Rose Center for Earth and Space.

The museum will host a private preview event Thursday night featuring the Etsy designers, who will discuss their techniques and inspirations.
