Amazon Local, the e-tailer’s daily deal service that emulated Groupon, is shutting down, according to a notice on its homepage.
The daily deals will cease as of Dec. 18, the company said, as will its daily deal emails. In addition, the Amazon Local app will stop functioning, according to GeekWire.
Vouchers purchased on the 4-year-old service remain active and valid, Amazon said.
Amazon Local is not the only “group deal” service that has been struggling. In September, Groupon cut about 1,100 jobs globally; one month later, LivingSocial, partly owned by Amazon, reportedly cut 200 people, or 20 percent of its workforce.
Amazon is also shutting its credit card processing business, Local Register, once considered a threat to Square, according to The Wall Street Journal.
