Alrosa Appoints Director to Transform Polishing Division

Russian diamond miner Alrosa has named Dmitry Amelkin (pictured) the transformation director of its united polishing division.

He will also keep his current role as head of Alrosa’s strategic projects and innovation center.

Alrosa bought the Kristall diamond polishing factory last year.

The company’s transformation strategy for its polishing division, approved by its board in December, aims to optimize the production cycle, increasing efficiency in the product mix, and minimizing administrative costs by created a consolidated trading office.

Prior to joining Alrosa in 2017, Amelkin led project management for Sberbank. He is a graduate of Moscow State Institute of International Relations and has a degree in business and finance. He has also worked at PriceWaterhouseCoopers.

“Dmitry is a manager successfully handling difficult challenges,” said Alrosa chief executive officer Sergey Ivanov in a statement. “Introduction of polishing operations to his area of responsibility is aimed to accelerate the integration of the Kristall factory into the group and give a new stimulus to the overall division’s efficiency and financials.”
