Russian diamond miner Alrosa is asking its buyers to adhere to new guidelines that demonstrate ethical and responsible business practices.
The new guidelines, which are part of a new initiative called the Alrosa Alliance, require buyers to:
– Share the objectives and principles of the Kimberley Process and inform business partners that diamonds they trade are conflict-free.
– Operate in accordance with the principles of lawful and fair competition, anticorruption, anti–money laundering, financial transparency, and information disclosure.
– Rigorously observe human and labor rights and provide safe working conditions. Avoid discrimination and forced and child labor.
– Minimize damage to the environment, and use mineral resources responsibly.
