Alrosa, Russia’s largest diamond company, held its first-ever auction of large rough diamonds in New York City.
The sale featured 51 rough diamonds weighing 11 cts. to 80 cts.
Two rough diamonds, weighing 57.47 cts. and 79.64 cts., highlighted the auction and sold for several million dollars each.
“New York is still the world number one center for cutting and polishing large diamonds,” Ronald Friedman, president of the Diamond Manufacturers and Importers Association, said in a statement. “We therefore welcome Alrosa’s decision to hold an auction here, and look forward to Alrosa’s continuing support.”
